The Forbidden City was reserved for the Nguyen royal family from 1802 to 1945. Unfortunately, American bombing in 1968 in response to a communist takeover of Hue flattened most of the city. As we can see, only a few buildings are survived such as the Thai Hoa palace, Can Thanh palace, The Mieu and Hieu Lam Cac, but all the remains make a well worth visit.
