Hoi An Ancient Town is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century. Its buildings and its street plan reflect the influences, both indigenous and foreign, that have combined to produce this unique heritage site.
MAJOR POTENTIALS
Hoi An has a coast of 7 km with many nice beaches that are favorable for tourism development. Hoi An also has a large fishery plentiful with sea products. About 15km from the Cua Dai beach lies the Cham (archipelago of 1,591 ha) where there are many famous sea swallow nests (bird nests) and good conditions to promote ecological tourism.

Chua Cau – The Japanese Covered Bridge
Built at different time by Hoi An talented workmen, Chua Cau retains a harmony of architectural styles, combining Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese cultural characteristics. More than 400 years have passed and the covered bridge has always been a good shelter for passersby escaping from the rain and heat. Generation after generation have paced its floor and the god of Bac De together with the sacred Monkeys and the Heavenly Dogs have always warmly welcomed everybody, even those visiting Chua Cau for the first time.
Hoi An Museum of History and Culture:
Hoi An museum also the pagoda of Quan Yin, a religious construction built in 1653, contains photographs and many precious artifacts such as maps, statues, porcelain, ceramic, scales, anchor, jar burials, steal, family records, … It is the place one should visit first in Old Hoi An.
Phuc Kien Assembly Hall
Set up in 1757 by Chinese Phuc Kien merchants at Hoi An, the building has been repaired and renovated many times. Phuc Kien Assembly Hall is used for genies and ancestors worship and a meeting place of the Chinese Phuc Kien people as well.
Phung Hung Old House:
Being a city house of special value built in the middle of the 19th century, the old house of Phung Hung used to be a shop-house of the former merchants. The house was divided into functional parts for selling, storing and sporting goods, book-keeping, and sleeping, entertaining and worshiping ancestors..
Tan Ky Old House
Tan Ky house, which is at No 101 Nguyen Thai Hoc street, is a typical example of the shop house form of Old Hoi an. Nearly 200 years old, the house is still in a good state of preservation. Having many sections together by a nice courtyard, the house with an elongated plan connecting the two streets, has many functions: living, worshiping ancestor, welcoming guests, renting and trading.
Cham Island:
The Cham Islands are 18 km from Cua Dai quay. There are seven islands altogether named according to their shape or characteristics. They are called Lao ( pear), Dai ( long ), La (leaf), Kho ( dry ), Tai ( ear), Mo ( tomb), and Nom ( east wind). They have a good climate, always cool the year round, and trees and animals are plentiful here. As well as marine life. On the island there are precious bird nests while under the water, the coral is marvelous.
There are also scenic spots al around the islands, such as: Suoi Tinh ( love stream), Suoi Ong (Sir’r stream). Hon Chong (Piled up rocks), Hang Ba (the lady’s cave). And surrounding the islands, there are very nice beaches with clean while sand and transparent, cool water.
Hoi An Legendary Night
Every lunar month, on the 14th day, there is a legendary night in Hoi An, when the old town is lit by the moon and houses are lit by graceful and colorful lanterns. In this evening, all kinds of vehicles are lifted off town and all the people; both Romanians and visitors comfortably walk and enjoy themselves in a new world, the world of Tranquility, Peace, Poetry and Beauty. Here, in an old house, local poets are enjoying their own poems recited by some ladies in the melodious accompany of a 16-string long zither player. There, in the porch of a family chapel, the traditional orchestra is giving passersby beautiful tunes of the old days while young ladies are singing out sweet, lyrical folk songs.
